Fronius PV-Genset solution

Save fuel and energy costs with photovoltaics

Diesel generators are widely used in areas with unstable grid supply to guarantee a reliable supply in industrial plants, backup systems and off-grid communities. Combined with photovoltaics, these diesel systems offer great potential for long-term cost savings.
The Fronius PV-Genset solution ensures optimum interaction between the photovoltaics and diesel generator. This saves fuel, lowers energy costs and ensures a stable and reliable power supply.

The advantages of the Fronius PV-Genset solution

  • Coordinated solutions for every solar/diesel hybrid system
  • Low energy costs
  • Short payback period
  • Very easy to integrate into existing systems

Fronius inverter The inverter converts the direct current from the solar modules into alternating current and provides the PV-Genset system with as much PV energy as possible.
1
Automatic Sustainable Controller The Automatic Sustainable Controller communicates with the inverters and diesel generators in the system.
2
Diesel generator The PV-Genset Advanced and Professional solutions are ideal for multi-generator systems in which the generators are automatically switched on and off depending on the load.
3
Loads The consumers are supplied with solar energy by the PV-Genset system.
4
Grid The PV-Genset Advanced and Professional solutions can also be used for backup applications.

FRONIUS PV-GENSET ADVANCED

With the PV-Genset Advanced solution, PV systems can be easily and quickly integrated into diesel systems in which several diesel generators are being used. The Advanced solution is primarily designed as a retrofit solution for multi-generator systems. The controller is the communication interface and assumes perfect control of the entire system. The PV system can thus relieve the workload of the diesel generators as much as possible and save costs. A striking feature of this solution is the combination and compatibility of strong partners such as ComAp, DEIF, Elum or Encombi.

  • The retrofit solution for multi-generator systems
  • Suitable for both low-voltage and medium-voltage applications

FRONIUS PV-GENSET PROFESSIONAL

The PV-Genset Professional is the fully integrated and harmonised solution for multi-generator systems. The controller is the communication interface and assumes perfect control of the entire system. This results in optimum interaction and relieves the workload from the diesel generators in the best possible way through the PV system. A striking feature of this solution is the combination and compatibility of strong partners such as ComAp or DEIF.

Maximum energy cost savings

Diesel generators are often associated with high and heavily fluctuating costs – which depend on the price of oil, transport costs and taxes. Depending on the region, the oil price is currently up to €2.5/KWh. In contrast, the cost of photovoltaics has fallen steadily in recent years and currently stands at €0.10/kWh on average worldwide.

As soon as the levelized cost of energy of a photovoltaic system undercuts those of a diesel generator, a PV-Genset system is a worthwhile investment.

The Fronius PV-Genset solution means we can make a significant contribution to saving energy costs, because every diesel kWh saved saves cash. As an installer, you can therefore impress your customers with a short payback period and low energy costs in the long term.

Intelligent control, optimal operation

To ensure stable operation of your PV-Genset system, not only the integrated components are essential, but also their smart control: It ensures smooth operation and also ensures maximum yields and noticeable savings in energy costs.

The solar controller is the communication interface and is responsible for the flawless control of the entire system. Thanks to the integrated Fronius communication unit, third-party components are easy to integrate into a control unit using Modbus RTU or via TCP using the SunSpec inverter control model.

The pV Genset solution in action

PV Genset system in Simbabwe

A tobacco factory in Zimbabwe has been using a PV system coupled with a 150 kVA diesel generator for several years. Following the completion of a capacity upgrade project, the system will ultimately be able to save up to 60 % in their previous daily fuel usage, which could work out to as much as 100 litres of fuel a day or more. The system was installed and commissioned by local Fronius System Partner James Davy, supported by OneStopSolar.
